Twin Blooms

Image
Decided to make a colourful card to brighten up a fellow crafter's December birthday.  First outing with some new purchases from Funky Fossil - Dellow Designs twin bloom stamp set and a Zinski Art jar stamp.  Made a lovely change making a tall thin (slimline) card instead of my usual square ones. I've filled the far with colourful 'marbles' achieved with a 15mm foam sponge dabber and distress oxide inks, each one stamped individually.  Same colours added with promarkers around the two flower heads.  Jar and flowers fussy cut and added to the stitched panel with foam pads to give some dimension.  Background lightly stencilled with butterflies and a stamped sentiment both using tumbled glass distress ink.  A few clear enamel dots to embellish. Merry Christmas to everyone who pops by and wishing you all a healthy 2023. I've used - DL white card base Funky Fossil stamps - Twin Blooms by Dellow Designs; Jar by Zinski Art Funky Fossil stencil - In the Air;  Funky Fossil c

Warm & Cosy Greetings

Image
I've made this card for the  Coffee Loving Cardmaking  2022 fall/winter coffee lovers blog hop running until Fri 18th Nov where there are lots of prizes to be won.  I reached for last year's stamps & dies that came with Die-Cutting Essentials issue 84 mag created by Helen Griffin - Simply Made Crafts. I used the small stamps in the set with an aperture stencil in a shape stamping technique to create the pretty heart using muted colours adding some gold die cut dots for the hanging thread.  Off set the stamped sentiment.  I've given the heart a padded feel by using a ball tool to stretch the cardstock from behind and adding 1mm foam pads. Using scraps of coloured card the rest of the elements were die cut - gingerbread latte mug with a couple of cute gingerbread men, a small Christmas tree, heart and stars.  Embraced leaving white space for a CAS look. I've used - A6 white card base Issue 84  Die-Cutting Essentials Warm & Cosy Winter Tags die & stamp set Vari

Smile - how the duck are you?

Image
Made this encouragement card for a friend who loves ducks so hopefully will bring a smile ... the sentiment on the inside says 'how the duck are you?' My background panel has a leaf design stencilled on it with a watermark ink pad and clear heat embossed then the edges lightly inked.  I like the subtle effect of tone on tone this technique gives.  The design also catches the light sadly not caught in my photos. The fun duck in the umbrella image has been stamped, coloured with promarkers and cut out, yes a bit fiddly but well worth the effort as I wanted this to mount onto my stencilled background and be tucked behind a cluster of die cut flowers and foliage. 'Smile' die cut sentiment I've used - 13.5 cm sq white card base Funky Fossil stamp set - Rainy Day Critters Funky  Fossil dies - Doodle Blooms; Funky Word; Ransom Note Alphas Funky Fossil stencil - In the Air Core'dinations cardstock Linking up with -                  Crazy is our fame  - November stencil

Woodware Bubble Bauble

Image
Just love this bubble style Christmas bauble stamp from Woodware designed by Jane Gill which I've combined with pattern papers. I took a sheet of deep blue paper from Funky Fossil's Shibori paper pad that reminded me of a night sky with a hint of snow at the bottom and stamped/embossed the bauble/sentiment with white EP.  From a different sheet of paper from the same pad I stamped just the bow and paper pieced that on top adding some shading with a pencil.  Down either side I added die cut torn edge strips. Then came some die cut circles for the larger bubbles, to my eye they are trees on a snowy hilltop.  Even smaller circles were die cut from a silver glitter adhesive sheet.  The rest of the bubbles were covered with glossy accents.  Definitely a labour of love die cutting/sticking them all in place but quite a dramatic overall effect. Funky Fossil - Sending Love & Strength

Image
Recently I supported Funky Fossil  by buying the lovely Hope Blooms stamp set designed by Tina Ashton as they were donating profits from the sale of the set to a breast cancer charity.  This is my first card made from the set. October is Global Breast Cancer Awareness month, people from all over the world can show their support for everyone affected by breast cancer and hope for a future where everyone with Breast Cancer lives and lives well. A steadfast tree with heart shaped leaves, two little birdies enveloping the trunk with ribbon in a symbolic hug. I used promarkers to colour and a mirror stamping technique for the right hand bird/ribbon.  Sentiment stamped & embossed in gold EP on vellum.  Panel mounted on a pink matt. Chocolate Bar Birthday

Image
A fun chocolate bar birthday card with zero calories ... I had seen this style of card on Pinterest and decided it was about time to create one myself. So easy to achieve: die cut squares and hearts in brown cardstock to layer up created the individual chocolate chunks and a strip of purple card with a torn edge and a layer of foil for the wrapper on a panel of brown cardstock.  I added a cute rock chick holding a cup cake and strip of card for the sentiment.  Chick coloured with polychromo pencils and fussy cut. Delved through my embossing folders and chose one with birthday words as a neutral background panel. I've used - 5x7" white card base Funky Fossil stamps - Rock Chick, Distress Elements & Happy Words docrafts Papermania Birthday EF Faber Castell polychromos Linking up with - Seize the Birthday  #248 ATG         Little Red Wagon  # 673 - Birthday               Daring Cardmakers  Be Happy!                                 Thank you for visiting - I'd love you to

Autumn Fox

Image
I do love Autumn and this card showcases the rich colours of the season.  I followed another YouTube free live workshop by Funky Fossil's Sarah Gray on HTCN and again this is my take on one of her cards using what I had in my stash. The frame is a patchwork of die cut squares from a paper pad adhered to cardstock with the centre aperture cut away and a piece of acetate added behind.  Each square edge was lightly inked.  On the card base I sponged distress oxide inks through a forest glade stencil in shades of green, orange and red.  The green area also uses a torn paper edge to give the foreground some depth.  The trees were edged with a brown pen adding some bark markings on the lower trunks.  Foam tape then gave the frame a little lift from the background. Fox stamped, hand cut and added to the bottom of the scene along with scattered stamped leaves coloured with pencils. I've used - 6x6" white card base Funky Fossil Kaleidescope paper pad Funky Fossil forest glade sten

CAS Christmas Sparkle

Image
Sharing a card for September's CAS Christmas challenge where the prompt is Sparkle and/or Shine. On a panel of linen cardstock I lightly brushed tumbled glass distress ink through a stencil to create a soft background for the sentiment which has been die cut from a metallic silver glitter sheet and stacked with two other white layers underneath.  Adapted a gilding-flake resist tutorial in a magazine to make a sparkly watercolour piece with white & silver super sparkle EP and turquoise brusho from which I die cut lots of stars (two of which I've used on this card) plus some other festive die cuts which I'll use on future cards. Edged the finish panel with more sparkle EP before mounting on the card base I've used - A6 white card base Creative Expressions by Sue Wilson - Contemporary Happy Christmas die Xcut metallics adhesive glitter sheet Creative Dies - Wonky Stitches Nesting Stars Turquoise Brusho; Personal Impressions white & super sparkle EP Funky Fossil st

Funky Fossil Floating Acetate Cards

Image
The lovely Sarah Gray from Funky Fossil did a free live workshop craft-a-long last month on the How To Craft Network and I joined in even though I didn't have the actual sets she used I decided to use other FF products I had instead.  Here are the two cards I made. Both A6 in size, one has a side acetate panel featuring a geo butterfly, the other is an easel card featuring funky florals.  In the past I have shied away from using acetate but I'm pleased with how these came out but difficult to photograph.  Base cards cut from a sheet of 300 gsm white card. I chose the geo butterfly for my first card as it was straightforward to cut around and take away part of card front, coloured with polychromos for a sketchy look. The floating half of the butterfly was backed with the same washi tape I used on the spine to make the inside neater before attaching the acetate panel behind. Randomly stamped some smaller geo elements on the front with a few enamel dots, adding a piece of pattern

Funky Fossil - Rock Chick

Image
Dance like no one's watching ... but wait, there is ... can you spot a face spying on the dancing chick? I created my own background with inks and a stencil.  I started by brushing shaded lilac distress oxide on a panel of white card stock followed by hickory smoke DO through a dotty circle stencil, simple but so effective.  There are some subtle water flicks there too.  The two main images were stamped, coloured with polychromo pencils and fussy cut before shaping slightly and adhering with a mixture of 1mm foam pads and wet glue.  I added some shadow underneath with a metallic silver pencil. I wanted to add some eyes watching the dancing chick and toyed with the idea of cutting into the door so it would open revealing someone watching from inside.  In the end I opted for something a lot simpler, stamping the face of another rock chick from the set and die cutting into a circle which fitted nicely into the open space of one of the dotty circles.  Mustard coloured matt layer and se

Embossing Puddles Background

Image
Recently I watched a technique video on YouTube  by Julie Hickey called Embossing Puddles - a direct to cardstock variation so had to give it a go.  I dipped into my stash of regular embossing powders some of which I've had for nearly 20 years! I placed random amounts of four different embossing powders onto a piece of black cardstock - you do need to use a good amount for the puddles to form.  Card was placed in between a folded sheet of baking parchment and heated with a heat tool keeping the nozzle very close.  You will be able see the powder melting.  I was very dubious of letting the nozzle touch the baking parchment at first as shown in the video but as long as it is only briefly you won't overheat your tool. I was doing this technique on black so both the yellow and orange embossing powder results came out quite grungy and I thought only suitable for a masculine card so created torn distress edges, simply topped with a die cut sentiment from a scrap of inked card and mou

Funky Fossil - Bugs and Blooms

Image
Made for my Dad's birthday - he does have a sense of humour, loves his garden and taking photos so this should go down well.  Another make using stamps, dies and patterned paper from Funky Fossil, my go to collection at the moment.  Love these happy bugs ... I guess the bee is thinking of robbing nectar from the flowers but his mask doesn't really hide who he is; he's got competition from the long nosed winged ant and I think the caterpillar is already well fed! Stamped images coloured with my new polychromo pencils (love their bright colours) and fussy cut.  Die cut three, single film strip frames from patterned paper to arrange over a stamped DI woodgrain panel.  Left the bottom frame for my sentiment a mixture of die cut alphas and stamping. Which bug is your favourite ... I've used - 5x7" white card blank Funky Fossil stamps -  Bugs and Blooms; Woodgrain; Rainy Day Critters (sentiment) Funky Fossil dies - Filmstrip; Ransom Note Alphas Funky Fossil Neutrals pape

Funky Fossil - On the Beach

Image
This little chap from Funky Fossil's Motley Crew stamp set has taken himself off to the beach on his holidays and decided to dip his toe into the water before going out paddle boarding.  He's wearing his water wings just in case!  I've combined lots of other Funky Fossil products to make this card - patterned paper, dies and a stencil. I've inked through a sunray stencil with three shades of distress oxides on the top part of my panel.  The bottom part has patterned paper die cut into strips with two different edges dies to create the beach and water.  The Motley Crew character has been coloured with promarkers and fussy cut; his 'water wings' are from the patterned paper to hide the colour underneath as it was too green for my liking! Die cut and paper pieced the sun umbrella and a second of the middle portion for a surf board stuck in the sand.  Finished with a die cut sentiment.  Panel mounted on a dark green matt. I've used - 6x6" white card base Fu
