Lady Meerkat's Summer Birthday

Image
Meet Lady Meerkat she is dressed up ready to party!  This year I have made most of my close family cards using Hobby Art's Meerkat Madness stamp set and this one has a summer tropical vibe even though it's autumn outside! I used some of the smaller stamps from the set on a square of white card to stamp for an emboss-resist technique before blending over four different Distress Oxide inks.  Flicked some water over the panel as well to add more interest.  Kept the stamping light so as not to detract from the main character.  Decided to then cut the middle out with a stitched decagon die and off set that with the next size up die in a purple matt layer behind. Lady Meerkat and her bottle of bubbly have been coloured with promarkers cut out, shaped and adhered with silicone glue.  I love her fruity hat!  Some extra green grass stamping and sentiment with a sequin to finish. I've used - 6x6" white card base Hobby Art Meerkat Madness stamp set Hunkydory Ink Me! c...

Football Meerkat Spinner

Image
Sharing a fun football spinner card featuring those Hobby Art Meerkat Madness stamps again. One of the larger Meerkats was stamped/embossed first then covered with a post it note mask before sponging and blending four distress oxide inks over the panel.  To create more interest in the background I used a word stencil next with the same DO's for a tone on tone look finally adding Versamark ink and clear EP for a bit of shine. It was easy to hand draw on the football kit to customise the Meerkat, simply coloured with Promarkers leaving some thin white stripes on the edges.  The slider aperture was cut horizontally across with the cut out reinserted onto the base card to make the Meerkat whole again!  Stamped a Happy Birthday sentiment around the card base edge before adding my finished panel on top with foam strips complete with football spinner in the aperture. I wanted to have two Meerkats either side of the football spinner as though they were heading the ball back and f...

Let's Party! Meerkats #2

I'm still a relative youngster in blogland compared to some of you but yesterday was my blog's 3rd anniversary!  I'm celebrating with an interactive make made for my OH's birthday - a gatefold shutter card using more of the meerkat stamps from my new Hobby Art set.  My first meerkat card you can see  here . I came across shutter opening style cards on Pinterest and found a template I could understand and make work for me  here .  Made a mock up of one first to see how it all fitted together then decided to go bigger ending up with a 6"x 6" card.  I've listed my measurements just in case I put them somewhere very safe never to be found again! Chocolate brown card base pieces - 12" x 6" - scored at 3" & 9" to create a gatefold. 9" x 4" strip - scored at 1cm on each short side - place a square die in the middle like a diamond & die cut to end up with two fishtail banner shapes for the shutter mechanism. 6" x 4" ...

Let's Party! Meerkat 60th

Image
First post of 2021 ... please stay safe everyone.  I've wanted these Hobby Art Meerkat stamps for ages and finally treated myself to the set at the end of last year ... I think most of my male birthdays will feature them for a while.  First outing for this party card for my brother who is celebrating a big birthday, well as much as you can during lockdown 3! I started by sponging two colours of distress inks onto the background for ground and sky leaving some whitish areas as clouds.  The banner stencil came next using distress oxides then I added some stitched details with white & black pens.  Trees stamped on the horizon water coloured with DO and a few stamped grasses closer to the foreground. The three happy Meerkats are coloured with Promarkers, fussy cut, shaped and adhered with silicone gel plus glossy accents on the eyes.  Gave two of them some party accessories to hold and of course the number 60 with some holographic EP for a bit of sparkle.  ...
