Uniko Geometric Butterfly

Image
I've tried out a new ink & flip stencil from Uniko to create this geometric butterfly.  I've inked in one colour then flipped the stencil over and inked again in another colour to reveal the design.  There is a second stencil layer to create a background but I kept it simple for my first attempt. Butterfly was fussy cut and adhered over some stencilled wonky stripes with 1mm foam pads to lift the edges of the wings.  Happy Birthday stamped in one of the inks used on the butterfly, mounted beneath.  A few yellow die cut dots added to create a little movement. Finished panel added to a square card blank.  Photos taken on a dull day so not as sharp as I would have liked. I've used - 13.5cm sq white card base Uniko ink & flip geometric butterfly stencil Uniko wonky stripes stencil Uniko simply said blocks sentiment stamp Distress Oxides: peacock feathers, wild honey, spiced marmalade Linking up with -                ...

Uniko shapes stencil with tangles

Image
It's been a while since I've done any tangling (doodling), was inspired to combine with Uniko's mid century modern shapes stencil for this birthday card, my take on one of Bev's card here  on the Uniko Studio blog. I chose five different distress oxide inks in tones of yellow/orange and blue/green to brush through the shapes stencil on a smooth white card panel.  Using the same stencil I drew around the inside of some of the shapes with a black fine liner pen so they overlapped and linked the coloured shapes together.  Filled in these shapes with various hand drawn tangles.  Large bold sentiment stamped in dark green, fussy cut and added with 1mm foam pads. Panel added to a 5x7" white card base. I've used - 5x7" white card base Uniko mid century modern shapes stencil Uniko mid century modern birthday sentiment Distress Oxides:  evergreen bough, salvaged patina, speckled egg, wild honey, squeezed lemonade VersaFine Clair shady lane Linking up with - Stencil...

Uniko Geometric Blocks

Image
First make with a new stamp set with blocks of geometric patterns.  Here I've used all five of the individual blocks and one of the sentiment stamps.  A second entry for Uniko's 12th birthday link up party. Blocks stamped and heat embossed with Wow EP then selective areas coloured with alcohol markers.  One block cut out and added with 1mm foam pads as a diamond centrepiece.  I've chosen a pretty colour combination from the current  Color Hues  challenge of lilac and mint (used closest colours I have) and accented the heart with white gel pen dots but these blocks would be perfect for masculine or generic makes too.  Sentiment stamped with DO ink. I've used - 135 mm sq white card base Uniko Bauhaus Blocks stamp set WOW! 100 Birthday Wishes

Image
Made for the uncle of a crafting friend celebrating his 100th birthday who still enjoys a bit of gardening.  Card Making Magic's Spring Garden stamp set that came with issue 119 of Creative Stamping seemed ideal to use and I also wanted to have lots of colour so what better than a rainbow background. Distress oxide inks were brushed over a stencil to create the abstract background then water drops flicked over to create some interest.  Gardening images stamped in brown ink directly onto the panel with masks used so the hand tools could be stamped behind the flower pots.  Images were coloured with a mixture of polychromos, metallic pencils and gel pens with added white gel pen highlights. Number 100 stamped in green ink with a bracket below again with some white gel highlights ... a topiary sculpture maybe?  White embossed sentiment on the same colour card as the matt layer. I've used - 6x6" white card base Issue 119 Creative Stamping covermount Claritystamp abstract ...

90 Birthday Candles

Image
Yes there are 90 candles on this bridge fold card made for my Dad's recent 90th birthday.  He wasn't really keen on reaching this milestone so decided not to put 90 on the front, instead came up with this design.  Not easy to photograph though. Each of the four slim panels has 14 candles, back panel has 26 and the front bridge panel has 8 (56+26+8=90).  Made with an A7 wonky candles stamp that has 13 candles in a row.  Used masking techniques and attempted to put no identical candle next to each other, but when assembling that did not work!  Candles were water coloured with distress inks and used a stencil to added some blue background colour.  Glossy accents on the candle flames and a birthday sentiment die on the front bridge element. * * * * * * We had a family get together to celebrate at a local café all to ourselves for a traditional afternoon tea and I made some simple table stands using a birthday grid stamp (white heat embossed) with die cut balloo...

Wonky Stripes Birthday

Image
First outing with a new stencil and stamps from Uniko. Love the randomly varied stripes in the stencil design which I've inked blended with green and blue distress oxides as a complete background.  Some water splatters add more interest. I heat embossed with white EP the background blocks pattern stamp, some of the lines were accentuated with a blue coloured pencil.  Sentiments stamped with a deep purple ink pad, cut into strips and mounted with 1mm foam pads.  A couple of small stamps added from another stamp set to complete my design.  You may notice I stamped in threes, if your eye rests on one shape your brain sees the others so you are looking up/down/across the whole design.  Finished panel matted on purple for this generic card. Some glossy accent drops added here and there too I've used -  13.5mm white card base Uniko stencil - Wonky Stripes Uniko stamps - 'Mid Century Modern' Background Blocks & Florals sets; Simply Said Blocks Distress Ox...

Alphabet Birthday Card

Image
Needed a way to use up some little scraps of core'dinations coloured card so came up with this after seeing something similar on Pinterest.  Quite like the look of random fonts together to make up each word.  Still loads more scraps left so will likely make more and vary the words on different backgrounds. The alphas were die cut in white, adhered to the coloured card then hand cut with random edges.  Background was lightly inked with hickory smoke distress oxide through a plaid stencil then I decided to rotate the stencil and ink again with cracked pistachio for a little more colour and design.  Colourful die cut circles from the same card to embellish which are softer for mailing than enamel dots as they won't pierce through the envelope.  Panel mounted onto a darker matt layer.        I've used - 13 cm sq white card base Core'dinations cardstock Funky Fossil Ransom Note Alpha die set Funky Fossil Plaid stencil Distress Oxide inks Linking u...

Wordle Birthday Card

Image
As my son introduced me to the daily online Wordle game I just had to make a birthday card for him this year using that theme.  I was firstly inspired by a card I saw on the CraftWorld site by a fellow crafter and then those on Pinterest. I die cut 30 little squares and enough white letters to spell out the four words from scraps of saved card mounted on a white panel with a matt layer in gold. The colour of the letter tiles indicate - a wrong letter (dark grey), a right letter in the right place (green), a right letter in the wrong place (gold) and white for the unused lines in the grid.  I printed off the six congratulation words and added 'splendid' on top of the white squares as that's the word that pops up when you solve the game in four tries.  My son has solved one of the games in a really lucky first word guess so he saw 'genius' pop up ... that has eluded me so far! Right at the top of my main panel is a tab with my Wordle result for my game 263 solved in 4...

#HB2u

Image
Hello fellow crafters yes it's been a while but life, lost mojo and then the hot weather has meant no proper crafting for what seems like ages. I have a new follow by email button on the sidebar as by now most of you will know that the Feedburner email subscription service is ending soon so please register if you'd like to carry on seeing what I create 😊 I really couldn't put off any longer to make this masculine birthday card so chose a simple CAS inked panel design. Started by masking off the centre section on my card blank and brushed over squeezed lemonade DO ink.  Once dry I stamped random lower case letters in hickory smoke DO then changed to a versa mark ink pad and stamped some more brushing those with silver iridescent mica powder for a lighter shiny tone. Showing the shine! On top of the inked panel are die cut stitched circles with the on-line user acronym of Happy Birthday to you #HB2u stamped in black with clear EP and edged in black to make them stand out mor...
