Embossing Puddles Background

Recently I watched a technique video on YouTube by Julie Hickey called Embossing Puddles - a direct to cardstock variation so had to give it a go.  I dipped into my stash of regular embossing powders some of which I've had for nearly 20 years!

I placed random amounts of four different embossing powders onto a piece of black cardstock - you do need to use a good amount for the puddles to form.  Card was placed in between a folded sheet of baking parchment and heated with a heat tool keeping the nozzle very close.  You will be able see the powder melting.  I was very dubious of letting the nozzle touch the baking parchment at first as shown in the video but as long as it is only briefly you won't overheat your tool.

I was doing this technique on black so both the yellow and orange embossing powder results came out quite grungy and I thought only suitable for a masculine card so created torn distress edges, simply topped with a die cut sentiment from a scrap of inked card and mounted onto a white card base.  You can see where some puddles have separated creating extra effects and I was a tad stingy with the copper so those areas are thinner!  A metal oxidation look maybe?

I do have quite a stash of old regular embossing powders so need to experiment and use lots of them up.  I would imagine some the newer EPs that have added mixed media in them would create some amazing results.

I've used - 7x5" white card base
Heat It Up! EPs - yellow, orange, gold, copper
Funky Fossil dies - Words & Ransom Note alphas
