Square Column Card
Decided to make a different fun fold card and whilst browsing Pinterest for inspiration I spotted several square column (or pillar) style cards that caught my eye. Straight forward to score from a square card blank and easy to adapt to other sizes too. Folds flat for posting. You can watch a YouTube video by Iced Images if you would like a visual guide of this style of card.
Scored the front of my 6x6" card blank at 2" and 4" and cut a 1" strip from spare card (scored in half lengthways) for the fixing element. The background panels were cut from a piece of designer paper as I loved the golden bubbles at the bottom, just perfect as I was making a celebratory 30th birthday card. All the stamps come from a Chessboard set by Zinski Art for Funky Fossil which combines quirky and classic chess themed images. The silhouette chess pieces were stamped in black ink across the bottom. The partial chess board and checkerboard strips were stamped and clear heat embossed on white card before adhering. One of the panels has the two sentiments stamped in black ink - "It's OK if you don't like chess - it's kind of a smart people game" and "Chess".
Alpha letters, happy birthday and numbers all die cut from gold patterned mirror card (which I've had in my stash for years), cut a second time from black card for a drop shadow. Arranged the individual 'celebrate' alphas vertically on one panel. On all of the panels I've stencilled some bunting in white pigment ink before brushing over with iridescent mica pigment powder for added interest.
A tricky card to photograph though.
