A little bird told me ...
I wanted to join in again with April's CAS Stencil Challenge so I set about searching for a home made recipe to make embossing paste as that is one craft item I do not have. Found one which used 8 tbsp talc, 1 tbsp acrylic paint & 1 tbsp PVA all of which was readily available to me at home plus a little tap water. This mix worked well and I have a lot left over too.
I did mix some copper mica powder into my embossing paste for some colour and scraped down over a woodgrain stencil on textured cardstock. I also wanted to use some of the RSPB stamps that came in issue 187 of Simply Cards & Papercraft mag, settled with the lovely robin so perched him on the garden tool handle with a couple sprigs of foliage all coloured with promarkers.
Deciding how the use all these elements on my card design was the hardest part ever as CAS does not come easily. In the end I sliced up my woodgrain panel, created decorative tops with a die and fixed them down using thin foam pads like part of a stepped fence so the robin had something interesting behind. Stamped "A little bird told me" sentiment from the same set so I think this card can be used for more than one different occasion and not limited to birthdays.

Fab card Steph :) I love the way you created the 'fence' on it, I got this set too but haven't used it yet :) Hugs - Debs xxx
ReplyDeleteFab card Steph, thanks for the recipe. Embossing paste is something missing from my stash too, although I have a lot of stencils. Clare x
ReplyDeleteDelightful card, love your homemade texture paste as you can make it any colour you want. Buying white embossing/texture paste is the best way too as you can colour it too suit so its better value for money. Cutting up the woodgrain into panels works so well. Emmax
ReplyDeleteSo creative to use the embossing paste to form the woodgrain on the fence. The perfect background for the lovely robin. Thank you for joining in at CAS Stencil!
ReplyDeleteHow clever you are, Steph! I love that you made your own embossing paste and adding copper mica powder works so well for the woodgrain pattern! Love your charming robin, too...Thanks so much for playing along with us at CAS Stencil!
ReplyDeleteLovely card Steph, great work with your EP - it worked brilliantly on your wood grain fence, sweet little robin too perched on the handle , wonderful and thanks for joining in with CAS Stencil this month.
