90 Birthday Candles

Yes there are 90 candles on this bridge fold card made for my Dad's recent 90th birthday.  He wasn't really keen on reaching this milestone so decided not to put 90 on the front, instead came up with this design.  Not easy to photograph though.

Each of the four slim panels has 14 candles, back panel has 26 and the front bridge panel has 8 (56+26+8=90).  Made with an A7 wonky candles stamp that has 13 candles in a row.  Used masking techniques and attempted to put no identical candle next to each other, but when assembling that did not work!  Candles were water coloured with distress inks and used a stencil to added some blue background colour.  Glossy accents on the candle flames and a birthday sentiment die on the front bridge element.

We had a family get together to celebrate at a local café all to ourselves for a traditional afternoon tea and I made some simple table stands using a birthday grid stamp (white heat embossed) with die cut balloons and numbers on bright coloured cardstock.

    What a wonderful birthday bridge card! I love that you were so creative in adding his 90 candles to the card. He should be proud of himself for getting there! My dad made it to 91 and would find a way to laugh about it. I'm sure he enjoyed the celebration and glad you made a great memory for him and everyone who attended. So lovely to be invited by Ellie from Simply Ellibelle's blog as guest designer for challenge 14 of " I spy with my little eye.... something with wings " selected by Pauline.  A fabulous theme with so many possibilities ... I chose to ink up this wonderful large scale owl with draft lines and geometric styling and created a spotlight die-cutting technique. Owl stamped and heat embossed with clear EP then die cut part of the image into a circle.  To make the background, two different distress inks (one green, one blue) were smooched onto the remaining panel.  I did some light stencilling in areas, blue ink for the hex matrix pattern, white ink for the circles with iridescent mica pigment powder so they catch the light.  Finally some over stamping in smoke blue ink (which looks more light grey) for the doodle patterns and additional words (spread your wings, soar, fly).  Die cut circle has another layer underneath so it's slightly raised and left uncoloured.  Die cut &a

Chatty Bar

The Chatty Bar stamp set designed by Zinski Art was perfect for a fun drink themed card I needed.  Look at their expressive faces!  Images combined with a geometric embossed background and witty sentiment. Background created by applying blue/green ink to a geometric stencil, spritzed with water, placed onto ochre coloured cardstock and embossed through my die-cutting machine to create the embossed pattern with ink transferred like a faux letterpress effect.  Added some pieces of black/gold geo-patterned papers for interest and to ground the images.  Stamped and clear heat embossed images coloured with a mix of watercolour paints, alcohol markers and coloured pencils before fussy cutting and adhering.  Sentiment stamped and white heat embossed on a scrap of patterned paper cut into strips. CAS Christmas Challenge - Guest Designer Card

Excited to be sharing my guest designer card for September's  CAS Christmas  card challenge where this month's theme is Christmas Tree.  I was their winning card in July, you can see it  here . I reached for my all time favourite Christmas tree stamp from an enchanted Christmas set by Hot off the Press.  A solid stamp with a lovely flourish design and snowflakes as part of the tree itself.  First I heat embossed the tree with white EP then positioned a circle stencil partly over so I could dab using cling film some pearl effects before sponging with distress inks to create a snowy sky backdrop.  Both the tree and pearl effects act as a resist and buff up to a lovely shine. I've ended up with a contemporary colour palette with an emphasis on lighter shades of purple with touches of blue and turquoise as the three DIs were still out on my desk from a previous project so I just went with them.  Finishing touches are three stamped and embossed snowflakes with coloured dot centr
