Ruby Sunflower

I grew some ruby sunflowers in my garden a few years ago and looking back at the photos inspired me to make this card.

A sunflower stencil was rotated several times to achieve more petals and colour hues as the inks overlapped each other when using blending brushes.  Centre inked with hickory smoke, petals with wild honey & fired brick DOs.  Centre seed pattern has been heat embossed for texture & shine with lots of added black dots.  Colour pencil shading on top of the ink gave even more depth and shade whilst black fine-liner pen defined the petals.

Sentiment stamped on a strip of vellum with a few gold die cut dots to embellish.  Panel layered onto red cardstock.

Had a little tidy up of my stash of handmade backgrounds recently, binning all those little ragged pieces and trimming what was left into manageable neater pieces, some large enough to cover a whole card, others just small left over panels.  The smaller panels are now in a little basket, a lot easier to flip through. From my new basket I selected a white embossed panel from a butterfly EF and blue panels left over from  this  card made 5 years ago!  The kite was die cut from these scraps and assembled.  I ended up not using all the die cut embellishments on the front but I may use the rest on the inside.        I also rediscovered in another tidy up session a pack of textured card blanks so on the front of one I dry embossed two recessed panels (similar to what Barbara Gray from Claritystamp does with her embedders) for a faux relief, printing press effect. CAS Christmas Challenge - Guest Designer Card

Excited to be sharing my guest designer card for September's  CAS Christmas  card challenge where this month's theme is Christmas Tree.  I was their winning card in July, you can see it  here . I reached for my all time favourite Christmas tree stamp from an enchanted Christmas set by Hot off the Press.  A solid stamp with a lovely flourish design and snowflakes as part of the tree itself.  First I heat embossed the tree with white EP then positioned a circle stencil partly over so I could dab using cling film some pearl effects before sponging with distress inks to create a snowy sky backdrop.  Both the tree and pearl effects act as a resist and buff up to a lovely shine. I've ended up with a contemporary colour palette with an emphasis on lighter shades of purple with touches of blue and turquoise as the three DIs were still out on my desk from a previous project so I just went with them.  Finishing touches are three stamped and embossed snowflakes with coloured dot centr

Father's Day Birds

I've been wanting to create these fun birds with stamps for a while now, luckily my Dad has a lovely sense of humour so this will be his father's day card.  Uniko's mid century modern florals stamp set was perfect to use for each bird.  Circles over stamped with some of the smaller stamps for their wings and tail feathers, some being heat embossed with silver pearl EP.  I added legs, eyes and beaks with a black fine liner pen. On the front of the card blank I brushed speckled egg oxide ink through Uniko's wonky stripes stencil as a background and added the bird panel on the left with a darker matt layer.  Dad still loves his garden and plants so chose stamps from Uniko's Papercraft Society Box organic bouquet set.  Leaf spray and tiny flower buds stamped, watercoloured, die-cut and added on the right hand side. The sentiment is made up from word stamps from Uniko's Bee Happy stamp set leaving only 'ther' for me to write in with a black fine liner pen. I&
