Ruby Sunflower

I grew some ruby sunflowers in my garden a few years ago and looking back at the photos inspired me to make this card.

A sunflower stencil was rotated several times to achieve more petals and colour hues as the inks overlapped each other when using blending brushes.  Centre inked with hickory smoke, petals with wild honey & fired brick DOs.  Centre seed pattern has been heat embossed for texture & shine with lots of added black dots.  Colour pencil shading on top of the ink gave even more depth and shade whilst black fine-liner pen defined the petals.

Sentiment stamped on a strip of vellum with a few gold die cut dots to embellish.  Panel layered onto red cardstock.

Autumn is one of my favourite seasons, looking forward to the rich colours of the changing leaves, squirrels busy collecting fallen acorns, fungi raising their heads above ground and seeing sunflowers still in bloom.  This card was made for a September birthday. I made my own background panel (pictured below) with two distress oxide inks smooshed on it before dry embossing with a layered leaves stencil. Stencilled on top of the raised embossing with various dye inks then used the second layering stencil to just ink the tops of the acorns.  Panel matted on burgundy cardstock.  Wanted to use a recent sale purchase of an Apple Blossom die set which creates a circular shaped puzzle centrepiece and chose a sunflower patterned paper from a recent magazine along with the same burgundy cardstock for the frame.  Once paper pieced back together this was mounted on the background panel. Woodware Birthday Grid meets Distress Oxides

My first post for 2019 and I'm sharing a card made with some new purchases ... I've finally bought some Distress Oxides so had a play and created an inky background.  Using three colours (spiced marmalade, cracked pistachio & squeezed lemonade) I decided to do a combination of inking on and through a stencil mask with a bit of water spritzing as well.  I quite like that the colours stay on top of each other without affecting the colours underneath and it's definitely a lovely chalky finish. Another new purchase was the Woodware birthday grid stamp by Jane Gill, I do like the grid arrangement of all the sentiments leaving two spaces so you can add other images to suit.  I've added social media type die cuts as this is a card for a male who's always on his mobile phone 😊.  Final touch was randomly stamping a filmstrip down one side and adding #smile in the corner. 100 Birthday Wishes

Made for the uncle of a crafting friend celebrating his 100th birthday who still enjoys a bit of gardening.  Card Making Magic's Spring Garden stamp set that came with issue 119 of Creative Stamping seemed ideal to use and I also wanted to have lots of colour so what better than a rainbow background. Distress oxide inks were brushed over a stencil to create the abstract background then water drops flicked over to create some interest.  Gardening images stamped in brown ink directly onto the panel with masks used so the hand tools could be stamped behind the flower pots.  Images were coloured with a mixture of polychromos, metallic pencils and gel pens with added white gel pen highlights. Number 100 stamped in green ink with a bracket below again with some white gel highlights ... a topiary sculpture maybe?  White embossed sentiment on the same colour card as the matt layer.
