Autumn colours

September at CAS Mix Up is a watercolour challenge with Autumn Colours.  We have a small acer tree in our garden that is just starting to showcase it's autumn colours and as we finally planted it in the ground from it's large tub earlier in the year it has really blossomed so we are going to get a good show soon.

I die cut the solid tree base from watercolour cardstock and used my watercolour pens to add autumn colours before spritzing with water.  Once dry I rubbed some gilding wax around the edges and trunk and spritzed again with a shimmer spray.  Maybe a tad too much spritzing as the tree now has a mottled look!  The skeleton tree was die cut from metallic cardstock and added on top.

Hopefully showing some of the shine & sparkly card base

I've added an abstract die cut behind the tree for a trellis effect with some scattered 'cake sprinkles' from brusho die cuts to represent falling leaves (they are just too nice to throw away) and I don't mind sticking down tiny elements.  Sentiment also stamped on a brusho snippet.

Faffed an awful lot with where to place the sentiment though!

I've used - A6 white sparkle card base
Funky Fossil quirky tree die set
docraft Artiste watercolour dual-tip pens
Creative Expressions enchanted gold metallic gilding wax
Tim Holtz festive repeat die
Brusho scraps from stash
Funky Fossil sentiment stamps

  1. Your tree looks absolutely perfect to me with the mottled fall colors! I immediately had to click for a close up on those sprinkles. Love how you placed them seemingly randomly throughout the background die with a few sprinkled off to the side. All those wonderful little bits of color! You ended up with a good placement of the sentiment, too. I'm happy to see your quirky and colorful tree in our watercolor challenge at CAS Mix Up! Thanks for joining us!

  6. Beautiful modern tree in Autumn colours Steph! I love the added metallics for shine. The die-cut "lattice" in the background is perfect and love the little let over bits that add so much to the design. Perfectly balanced with your sentiment placement! Thanks for sharing with us at CAS Mix Up!

  9. We have a couple of tiny acers, which were birthday gifts last year and are still in pots, so I think it will be a little while before we get a spectacular show. I can't wait... your card is spectacular too!
