Papercraft Society Box 52 - Funky Fossil

It's taken me a while to get back into blogland, Christmas was busy with no time to share all the cards I made.  My favourite brand Funky Fossil celebrates it's 5th year this month and brought out a Papercraft Society box which I treated myself to.  I don't usually create with co-ordinating elements from a kit so slightly out of my comfort zone.  This card uses stamps, a die cut, washi tape, ephemera and papers all from the box.


I followed a YouTube tutorial by Jennifer McGuire to create a trapped embossed resist background. On a piece of white card four DO inks were blended.  Once the background was dry several of the stamps were embossed with clear EP.  Pigment white ink was sponged and buffed over the top to create a softer look.  The stamps have a contemporary one-line art style, used colouring pencils to add shading to make the face more visible, dabbing off some areas of the background colour with a water brush for highlights.


Just the edge from a word die was cut from one of the papers, added to a torn piece of vellum and adhered to the top of the panel.  Across the bottom is one of the washi tapes "live your best life" with floral ephemera mounted on 1mm foam pads and one of the positive affirmation stamps "Be-you-tiful" on a piece of torn vellum fixed with micro dots.  Panel matted on blue card from the box.  Finished card size approx 12x15cm.

So lovely to be invited by Ellie from Simply Ellibelle's blog as guest designer for challenge 14 of " I spy with my little eye.... something with wings " selected by Pauline.  A fabulous theme with so many possibilities ... I chose to ink up this wonderful large scale owl with draft lines and geometric styling and created a spotlight die-cutting technique. Owl stamped and heat embossed with clear EP then die cut part of the image into a circle.  To make the background, two different distress inks (one green, one blue) were smooched onto the remaining panel.  I did some light stencilling in areas, blue ink for the hex matrix pattern, white ink for the circles with iridescent mica pigment powder so they catch the light.  Finally some over stamping in smoke blue ink (which looks more light grey) for the doodle patterns and additional words (spread your wings, soar, fly).  Die cut circle has another layer underneath so it's slightly raised and left uncoloured.  Die cut &a

Chatty Bar

The Chatty Bar stamp set designed by Zinski Art was perfect for a fun drink themed card I needed.  Look at their expressive faces!  Images combined with a geometric embossed background and witty sentiment. Background created by applying blue/green ink to a geometric stencil, spritzed with water, placed onto ochre coloured cardstock and embossed through my die-cutting machine to create the embossed pattern with ink transferred like a faux letterpress effect.  Added some pieces of black/gold geo-patterned papers for interest and to ground the images.  Stamped and clear heat embossed images coloured with a mix of watercolour paints, alcohol markers and coloured pencils before fussy cutting and adhering.  Sentiment stamped and white heat embossed on a scrap of patterned paper cut into strips. CAS Christmas Challenge - Guest Designer Card

Excited to be sharing my guest designer card for September's  CAS Christmas  card challenge where this month's theme is Christmas Tree.  I was their winning card in July, you can see it  here . I reached for my all time favourite Christmas tree stamp from an enchanted Christmas set by Hot off the Press.  A solid stamp with a lovely flourish design and snowflakes as part of the tree itself.  First I heat embossed the tree with white EP then positioned a circle stencil partly over so I could dab using cling film some pearl effects before sponging with distress inks to create a snowy sky backdrop.  Both the tree and pearl effects act as a resist and buff up to a lovely shine. I've ended up with a contemporary colour palette with an emphasis on lighter shades of purple with touches of blue and turquoise as the three DIs were still out on my desk from a previous project so I just went with them.  Finishing touches are three stamped and embossed snowflakes with coloured dot centr
