Stencilled Background - With Love

Dusted off an old set of Penny Black stamps to use on this year's Valentine card as I remembered one of the frog/toad characters was sat fishing with a heart.  This card also features a new-to-me technique of inking through stacked stencils which I came across on Splitcoaststampers here.

I started inking through a brick wall stencil with tumbled glass, bundled sage & scattered straw distress inks until I was happy with the look.  While that first stencil was still in place I lined up the next stencil on top and inked through again just with tumbled glass to get the dots pattern on the actual bricks.  This technique works well with an open stencil and another more detailed one.

I've coloured the happily fishing toad with promarkers and he's cut out and mounted on top of a stencilled puddle splat coloured with distress inks and outlined in black marker pen.  For a finishing touch I've doodled some hanging dangles in the top corner with added die cut red hearts.

For once I decided to challenge myself to go out of my comfort zone and go away from the usual full base matts and layers ... this time I've cut red strips to go behind my main panel mounting them down the two long edges and I've placed the oval topper partly off the main panel just to break up that side.

I've used - 5x7 white card blank
Claritystamp stencil card
Distress Inks; Promarkers; Glossy accents
Claritystamp Brick Wall Stencil
That Spcial Touch Masks - Splats & Grunge Texture
Penny Black Toadily stamp
Creative Dies stiched & pierced nesting ovals
Mag freebie sentiment stamp

  1. Fantastic card and fun image, love the layered stenciling, ive often stamped through stencil but not thought to stencil through stencils so one to try i think, adds more interest and makes the brick look more weathered. Emmax
