Birthday Wishes Cake

Image
Made my own mixed media background panel for this birthday cake card with inks, stencils, stamps, glitter paste, stencil butter and embossing powder.  You might have to zoom in to see the sparkle and shine.  A favourite three tier cake with chocolate sprinkles ... yum! For the background I started by blending two DO inks onto white cardstock.  Repeatedly placed the mandala stencil on top, spritzed with water and dabbed off with paper towel to create a faux bleach effect.  Glitter paste and stencil butter was applied through parts of the seed head stencil.  Embossing powder was sprinkled over the top of the stencil butter and heated once dry.  Random stamping with various inks. Three tier cake die cut from scraps of pearlised card for the layered toppings (white layer was an embossing folder scrap) and similarly inked card as the background panel for the bases which have stencilled white heat embossed wavy lines.  Added a birthday wishes word banner die in white pearlised card backed wi

Autumn Days

Image
Autumn is one of my favourite seasons, looking forward to the rich colours of the changing leaves, squirrels busy collecting fallen acorns, fungi raising their heads above ground and seeing sunflowers still in bloom.  This card was made for a September birthday. I made my own background panel (pictured below) with two distress oxide inks smooshed on it before dry embossing with a layered leaves stencil. Stencilled on top of the raised embossing with various dye inks then used the second layering stencil to just ink the tops of the acorns.  Panel matted on burgundy cardstock.  Wanted to use a recent sale purchase of an Apple Blossom die set which creates a circular shaped puzzle centrepiece and chose a sunflower patterned paper from a recent magazine along with the same burgundy cardstock for the frame.  Once paper pieced back together this was mounted on the background panel. The fungi and butterfly are printed transparency images which were gifted to me, these I've arranged and ad

Listen to the Sea

Image
A second ocean themed card made a while back for another crafty friend's birthday this month with a Summer seaside vibe.  The main waves stamp is by Inkylicious which has been white heat embossed after brushing on inks to create the sky, sea and sand colours, depth added with coloured pencils. Sentiment stamped on the shoreline.  Clouds in the sky were stencilled with butter paste, added small die cut seagulls and a die cut doodle frame.  Turtle coloured with alcohol markers, added glossy accents on top for 'water' shine, used coloured pencils on the shells and starfish.  All these gifted images were fussy cut before adhering some with 1mm foam pads.  Used a distress stamp on the card base which partially extends out from behind the finished scene panel. Uniko Geometric Butterfly

Image
I've tried out a new ink & flip stencil from Uniko to create this geometric butterfly.  I've inked in one colour then flipped the stencil over and inked again in another colour to reveal the design.  There is a second stencil layer to create a background but I kept it simple for my first attempt. Butterfly was fussy cut and adhered over some stencilled wonky stripes with 1mm foam pads to lift the edges of the wings.  Happy Birthday stamped in one of the inks used on the butterfly, mounted beneath.  A few yellow die cut dots added to create a little movement. Finished panel added to a square card blank.  Photos taken on a dull day so not as sharp as I would have liked. I've used - 13.5cm sq white card base Uniko ink & flip geometric butterfly stencil Uniko wonky stripes stencil Uniko simply said blocks sentiment stamp Distress Oxides: peacock feathers, wild honey, spiced marmalade Linking up with -                  Stencil Fun  Aug                       Just Us Girls

Friendship

Image
This large cute bunny stamp with grungy elements in a collage style comes from a Funky Fossil set designed by Olga Heldwein.  I decided to leave the image as is once stamped and to have a colourful background instead with positive sentiment. Main image stamped in black and clear heat embossed.  Created a paper mask temporarily adhered with a non permanent tape runner before smooshing three colours of distress oxide inks over the rest of the background making sure each colour was dry in between.  I've made my own smoosher after watching this YT video by NB Cards which works a lot better for me than using acetate to transfer inks.  Main panel layered onto kraft card. Sentiment stamped on vellum, heat embossed with gold EP with torn edges before wrapping around the main panel. I've used - 4.5" x 6.5" white card base Funky Fossil Friendship stamp set Distress Oxide inks - peacock feathers, abandoned coral, wild honey inking up with - We Love Stamping  Focal Sentiment/ATG

Ocean Frame Starfish Wishes

Image
A make for a fellow crafter's birthday with a Summer vibes ocean theme using some of my Funky Fossil stash.  I did make this a while back when I was in the mood to create something nautical. From memory, I started with a piece of pp that had a gradient blue misty effect at the bottom which reminded me of the ocean floor.  There is some stamping at the bottom in dark blue ink, sunray stencilling at the top and abstract waves stencilling in the middle.  Added the white die cut ocean frame (there is another die cut frame behind in a darker colour for a bit of drop shadow); sentiment stamped on vellum and placed in the middle to soften the stencilling behind.  The seahorse is paper pieced back in from a scrap of inky card. Two large starfish stamped in dark blue ink, fussy cut and mounted with 1mm foam pads.  Finishing touches - coloured pencil highlights on the bottom plants, white gel pen dots, glitter paste stencilling at the top for a bit of sparkle. I've used - 6"sq whit

Uniko shapes stencil with tangles

Image
It's been a while since I've done any tangling (doodling), was inspired to combine with Uniko's mid century modern shapes stencil for this birthday card, my take on one of Bev's card here  on the Uniko Studio blog. I chose five different distress oxide inks in tones of yellow/orange and blue/green to brush through the shapes stencil on a smooth white card panel.  Using the same stencil I drew around the inside of some of the shapes with a black fine liner pen so they overlapped and linked the coloured shapes together.  Filled in these shapes with various hand drawn tangles.  Large bold sentiment stamped in dark green, fussy cut and added with 1mm foam pads. Panel added to a 5x7" white card base. I've used - 5x7" white card base Uniko mid century modern shapes stencil Uniko mid century modern birthday sentiment Distress Oxides:  evergreen bough, salvaged patina, speckled egg, wild honey, squeezed lemonade VersaFine Clair shady lane Linking up with - Stencil

Creative Creases Guest Designer

Image
Delighted to be a guest designer for Creative Creases challenge #86  where each challenge is ATG with a fun fold.  Thank you for having me.  The flying seagull fun fold (or accordion centre panel card) is certainly not new but it's the first time I have made one. This card was created for my Mum's birthday last month.  One of her jobs was a reporter for our local weekly newspaper so I chose this old style typewriter as a focal image but surrounded it with pretty flowers and butterflies.  Mum didn't use a typewriter quite of this vintage but it was a talking point when she saw the card!  Stamps and stencils used from Creative Stamping mag 133 covermount set. The typewriter was stamped on the main front panel in back.  The small florals and flourishes were stamped in purple, orange and green to fill the surrounding space.  Typewriter stamped a second time and parts decoupaged on the original for added dimension.  Happy Birthday sentiment stamped on the lightly inked paper. Ruby Sunflower

Image
I grew some ruby sunflowers in my garden a few years ago and looking back at the photos inspired me to make this card. A sunflower stencil was rotated several times to achieve more petals and colour hues as the inks overlapped each other when using blending brushes.  Centre inked with hickory smoke, petals with wild honey & fired brick DOs.  Centre seed pattern has been heat embossed for texture & shine with lots of added black dots.  Colour pencil shading on top of the ink gave even more depth and shade whilst black fine-liner pen defined the petals. Sentiment stamped on a strip of vellum with a few gold die cut dots to embellish.  Panel layered onto red cardstock. One of the ruby sunflowers I grew I've used - 6" sq white card base Funky Fossil sunflower stencil sentiment from Uniko Paradise stamp set Distress Oxide inks: wild honey, fired brick & hickory smoke Sanntangle coloured pencils;  Blackberry WOW!
