Stencil Monoprint - Guest Designer at CAS Mix Up

I was so very pleased to be invited as a Guest Designer for CAS Mix Up this November where the challenge prompt is stencil monoprint (you can see my card that won their September challenge here).

Creating a stencil monoprint is a fun technique to do and also proves how versatile stencils can be.  If you've not tried this before here are a couple of video tutorials:

I chose to work with a pretty Indian Mandala stencil and distress inks in shades of blues and greens dabbing them over one side of the stencil, misting with water then pressing down on some watercolour paper.  Left the print to air dry then placed the stencil back over the design and sponged over some yellow ink to soften the white areas.

And then quite radically I sliced my print up adhering the strips to some acetate and placed a leaf aperture panel over the top.  Added a die cut 'Birthday' sentiment & leafy flower stem in white with shadow die cuts behind in the same dark green as the base card.  To complete the sentiment 'Wishes' was stamped in a smaller font with light green ink.  I love how the acetate catches the light and you can see in between the strips to the dark base card.  Not sure adding a few drops of glossy accents was a good idea but can't change that now!

Hope you'll give this technique a try and play along this month at CAS Mix Up - the design team will have even more amazing inspiration for you over on the challenge blog ... thank you Loll and team for my GD spot.

I've used -
14.5 cm sq dark green card base
Funky Fossil Indian Mandala stencil
Bockingford hot pressed (smooth) Watercolour Paper
DI's peacock feathers, tumbled glass, lucky clover, crushed olive
Impress lemon yellow dye inkpad; VersaFine Clair verdant inkpad
White linen cardstock; Xcut nesting leaves 2 die;
Birthday Wishes die by Sue Wilson CE
gifted leafy flower diecut

  6. Stunning take on the monoprint challenge for CAS Mix Up. Loved the bold move of making strips from it and enhancing it further with the diecuts. Using a drop shadow for both the floral and that gorgeous sentiment. So glad you were able to Guest Design for us this month. Thank you.
