Geo Moths

I've been creating with more of my new Funky Fossil stash.  This will be my Dad's birthday card, he loves anything to do with nature so the possibilities are endless thankfully.

Using the watercolour lines stencil vertically I created a background by sponging distress oxide inks, blending them together to loosely represent plant stalks, edging one side with a black fine liner to give more definition.  I did attempt to create a light source in the top corner as moths are attracted to light but that turned out to be a muddy mess now hidden by the yellow Brusho die cut!

The moths were stamped with olympia green Versafine ink and clear embossed, coloured with promarkers, fussy cut, shaped with a ball tool and just the body adhered with silicone gel so the wings are curved and raised.  At the moment I favour adding sentiments that are white embossed on black card.  I like moths, do you?

Here's an interesting snippet I found from the RSPB website -
"Many moths have been given strange and beautiful names. Some of the best include the poplar lutestring, scorched carpet, peach blossom and ruby tiger. Then there’s the lobster moth, the geometrician, cousin German and the setaceous Hebrew character. Don’t confuse the brown-line bright-eye with the bright-line brown-eye, will you? Or get mixed up about the uncertain moth..."

I've used - 6x6" white card base
Funky Fossil: Geo Bugs A5 stamp set & Watercolour Lines stencil
Distress Oxides: evergreen bough, cracked pistachio, hickory smoke
ClarityStamp stencil card; Neenah solar white card
Penny Black 'happy birthday!' stamp
Mag freebie 'enjoy' stamp

  1. So beautiful, love the whole design, the stencil is so useful - your dad will love it. Yes nature is a good theme as you say its endless inspiration. These look a bit like the hummingbird moth with their giant bodies......nope im not a moth fan - although now im quite capable of just catching them and putting them outside...i far prefer spiders. 2. I adore this card Steph, the colours are so serene.
I quite like the way moths look (especially the big ones with furry bodies) but I don't like having them in the house. I get very paranoid at this time of year about having lights on and windows open!
Back to the card ... I really love the stencilled background and the way you have added the outline in places. 💕 Clare x

  8. Another beautifully summery card, Steph. What a lovely effect on the background - the fine liner gives it a real impact. Wow, I thought we had some strange names for moths in Japan, but the English names are definitely the winners!
