Geo Moths

Image
I've been creating with more of my new Funky Fossil stash.  This will be my Dad's birthday card, he loves anything to do with nature so the possibilities are endless thankfully. Using the watercolour lines stencil vertically I created a background by sponging distress oxide inks, blending them together to loosely represent plant stalks, edging one side with a black fine liner to give more definition.  I did attempt to create a light source in the top corner as moths are attracted to light but that turned out to be a muddy mess now hidden by the yellow Brusho die cut! The moths were stamped with olympia green Versafine ink and clear embossed, coloured with promarkers, fussy cut, shaped with a ball tool and just the body adhered with silicone gel so the wings are curved and raised.  At the moment I favour adding sentiments that are white embossed on black card.  I like moths, do you? Here's an interesting snippet I found from the  RSPB  website - "Many moths ...

Carpe Diem ... seize the day!

Image
This is my first card using a new geo bug stamp set by Funky Fossil.  I stamped and embossed one of the beetles off to one side of a mop-up stencil print from my previous tropical leaves card.  Using the same colours of distress oxide inks I painted the beetle and applied glossy accents over the body and head.  After all beetles do have shiny and colourful skin. Who knew that beetles have an interesting spiritual meaning and symbolism. They represent hard work, progress, stability, love, persistence, colourfulness, creativity, cooperation, solidarity, instinct, and intuition. They're often associated with progress, consistency, devotion to goals and of course hard work.  I've learnt a lot in the process of making this card! The stamp set includes some smaller hexagon stamps so these were stamped off the bottom corner edge.  To link the two areas together I added a carpe diem sentiment embossed in white on black. I've used - A6 green card base Funky Fos...

CAS Nativity Baubles

Image
Well I've never made a Christmas card so early in the year!  As I'm waiting on some new stamps to arrive for my next couple of family birthdays I decided to join in for the first time with  CAS Christmas Card  July challenge where the theme is nativity scenes and  Allsorts Challenge  something beginning with 'B' (baubles, blue, brusho). I wanted to create a group of three baubles with nativity related scenes inside and reached for a set of border dies from a magazine cutting them in navy blue & silver card, inlaid them together before cutting out with circle dies.  The stable scene die had Joseph stood right beside so I had to position the die on the edge of my cutting plates in a partial die cut technique to get him on his own. Then felt the card needed a touch of colour so sprinkled some lemon Brusho powder on a panel of card and spritzed with water to create some downward light from the star.  My three baubles were then slotted into circ...

CAS Tropical Day

Image
July  CAS Mix Up Challenge  has us focusing on stencil tracing either outlining through a stencil or freehand afterwards. I wanted to use my new tropical leaves stencil so reached for a previously made background I had already inked a while back when I was trying out the acrylic block technique where I'd used three distress oxides.  I masked around the main leaf on the stencil and sponged through two shades of green DOs, once dry outlined freehand just three sides with a black fine liner. Next I hunted for a suitable flower and chose a cherry blossom sakura stamp maybe not truly tropical but it looks the part to me.  Flower was stamped on a spare scrap of the orange, embossed with clear EP then spiced marmalade DO sponged through the same stencil to give a stripy effect.  Freehand lines drawn with a white gelly roll pen, fussy cut, petals curled slightly and adhered to the bottom of my panel.  Finished off with a stamped sentiment ...
