Birthday Fishes

Image
It's been far too long since I joined in with a  Just Add Ink  challenge they just seem to come and go so quickly!  The current colour challenge palette sparked off an under the sea idea so this is what I've created using Brusho inks to match the colours as close as I could. I started by masking off the top & bottom of a piece of watercolour paper then using a dry brush placed tiny amounts of alternate yellow & turquoise Brusho powders along the top edge first.  Lifting up the paper slightly and spritzing with water away from you lets the colours mix and run down.  The bottom edge was created exactly the same but spritzed more heavily with water as I wanted a more softer look. Added a wavy die cut element across the middle cut from another similar Brusho piece and stamped three fish with Memento nautical blue ink.  Dark blue layers were added under all the die cuts for a shadow effect as well as behind the finished panel and the sen...

A little bird told me ...

I wanted to join in again with April's  CAS Stencil Challenge  so I set about searching for a home made recipe to make embossing paste as that is one craft item I do not have.  Found one which used 8 tbsp talc, 1 tbsp acrylic paint & 1 tbsp PVA all of which was readily available to me at home plus a little tap water.  This mix worked well and I have a lot left over too. I did mix some copper mica powder into my embossing paste for some colour and scraped down over a woodgrain stencil on textured cardstock.  I also wanted to use some of the RSPB stamps that came in issue 187 of Simply Cards & Papercraft mag, settled with the lovely robin so perched him on the garden tool handle with a couple sprigs of foliage all coloured with promarkers. Deciding how the use all these elements on my card design was the hardest part ever as CAS does not come easily.  In the end I sliced up my woodgrain panel, created decorative tops with a die and fixed them ...

Faux Stained Glass Easter Cards

Image
I've been trying out a new-to-me technique of faux stained glass and finished a couple of Easter cards.  My first layer of die cuts were fixed down on a textured card stock panel before adding colour with a yellow promarker inside the flower petals.  A second layer of die cuts followed then infilled with glossy accents leaving to dry overnight.  Next step was the third layer of die cuts followed again with more glossy accents and a sprinkling of art glitter as well.  I love the shiny sparkling effect! I did regret using textured cardstock as the sentiment took so many attempts to try and stamp evenly with my stamping platform until I realised I had mounted the clear stamp on the rubber stamp side of the lid ... doh!  Rescued by adding a thin layer of funky foam underneath my cardstock so the stamp met the card better ... phew!  Created a die cut chick sheltering underneath the leaf and a few butterflies die cut from scraps of inked card. ...

Easter Art Deco Flower Box

Image
I've had this 3D flower box die for quite some time and only assembled it from scrap card just to see how it all went together initially so thought it was about time a finished one went on a card.  I'm hosting an A-Z colour challenge with friends/members over on docrafts so this is my card using three of the 'H' colours - Highland green, Honey yellow & Honey Flower purple plus a neutral of ivory. The whole flower box die was cut in green & assembled, then the flower heads were cut again from scraps of brusho coloured card in yellow & purple and mounted on top with highlights from a glitter sparkle pen.  I haven't truly 3D'd the flower box as it was meant to be as the flower heads are quiet delicate and I didn't want them breaking off in the envelope so they are fixed down! My centre panel was embossed with an Art Deco frame EF then decided to create alternate coloured side strips in the style of an Art Deco mirror.  I also like to...
