Music Birthday with Distress Oxide Backgound

Image
I set out to create a background using Distress Oxides and acrylic blocks ... this is the result of my play session colourful and random.  My three colour combination was shaded lilac, picked raspberry & squeezed lemonade spritzed with water before pressing down onto watercolour card.  I used three different sized but small acrylic blocks and overlapped them as I went along. I die cut a lovely music sentiment out of the panel to keep for another card and inserted back in a plain white one then set about stamping and embossing in white some music notes floating around before mounting on grape coloured cardstock for a darker contrast. My card was made with two challenges in mind ... one with friends/members over on docrafts for our music themed embossing/outline challenge and  Just Add Ink Challenge #445   to "Add Embossing" to our projects ... I chose embossing powder for both. I've used -  A6 landscape white card base Distress Oxides Unbr...

CAS Paper Pieced Ivy

Image
It was great to see that  Back to Basics and Beyond Challenge  chose to feature the paper piecing technique this time round which I have done on and off in the past.  I decided to keep to a CAS design on kraft card so went hunting for a suitable stamp in my collection and eventually chose an ivy stamp as the leaves were straightforward to cut! I love the white embossed look on kraft card which I've achieved using the ivy and sentiment stamps although it's hard not to get any stray specks of white even though I do use an anti-static pad!  Chose some bright pink and blue patterned paper and stamped the ivy again this time in black to add a contrast cutting away the double outline border before shaping and mounting with silicone glue for a slightly raised effect. Finishing touch was a little blue bird stamped on top of the sentiment. I've used -  13.5cm sq white card blank Papermania Kraftstax card Claritystamp ivy, sentiment & bird stamps JudiKi...

Stencilled Background - With Love

Image
Dusted off an old set of Penny Black stamps to use on this year's Valentine card as I remembered one of the frog/toad characters was sat fishing with a heart.  This card also features a new-to-me technique of inking through stacked stencils which I came across on Splitcoaststampers  here . I started inking through a brick wall stencil with tumbled glass, bundled sage & scattered straw distress inks until I was happy with the look.  While that first stencil was still in place I lined up the next stencil on top and inked through again just with tumbled glass to get the dots pattern on the actual bricks.  This technique works well with an open stencil and another more detailed one. I've coloured the happily fishing toad with promarkers and he's cut out and mounted on top of a stencilled puddle splat coloured with distress inks and outlined in black marker pen.  For a finishing touch I've doodled some hanging dangles in the top corner with added die cut...
