CAS Embossed Vellum Butterflies

This month has been busy for me both a work and life in general and now that Father's Day has passed I can concentrate on a challenge card.  Football is also back on the TV so a perfect excuse for me to escape to my craft room!  June's mixed media challenge at CAS Mix Up is focusing on embossed vellum. I came across my gradient coloured vellum sheets the other day so set about stamping & heat embossing in gold this gorgeous butterfly stamp by Phill Martin, from his second Sentimentally Yours box kit.


On the back of the stamped vellum I dry embossed all the butterflies with a ball tool so they have a raised effect and the inner parts of their wings are whiter though not sure my photos have captured that very well.  Attaching vellum to a card can be tricky as glue will show through so I used a ribbon die four times and arranged to make a frame then glued behind that onto the card base ... problem solved.  I've left this an open card for now and will add a small sentiment probably on another piece of the same vellum but only if it looks right.

    Gorgeous card Steph! I love how the gold embossing on vellum looks so amazing with pink! Great idea to use those ribbons to create a frame which also keeps the vellum secured. Very creative! Thanks for sharing with us at CAS Mix Up!

    Some fantastic embossing, Steph! And a great tip for hiding the glue! I did try watching the Liverpool game with hubby but even he admitted it was a pretty dour game!

CAS Christmas Challenge - Guest Designer Card

Excited to be sharing my guest designer card for September's  CAS Christmas  card challenge where this month's theme is Christmas Tree.  I was their winning card in July, you can see it  here . I reached for my all time favourite Christmas tree stamp from an enchanted Christmas set by Hot off the Press.  A solid stamp with a lovely flourish design and snowflakes as part of the tree itself.  First I heat embossed the tree with white EP then positioned a circle stencil partly over so I could dab using cling film some pearl effects before sponging with distress inks to create a snowy sky backdrop.  Both the tree and pearl effects act as a resist and buff up to a lovely shine. I've ended up with a contemporary colour palette with an emphasis on lighter shades of purple with touches of blue and turquoise as the three DIs were still out on my desk from a previous project so I just went with them.  Finishing touches are three stamped and embossed snowflakes with coloured dot centr

Color Hues Guest Designer

Very excited to share my guest designer card for the new challenge at  Color Hues  with a lovely soft palette of cream and blue.  You can see my winning card  here .  I was aiming for a cream and blue ceramic look.  I wonder who has left their boots behind in the garden? Hope their kite stays flying long enough for them to return ...        Having bought some new Card-io stamp sets at a local craft fair recently I was keen to create with them alongside other sets I already had.  Made a cream background on my Gelli plate with acrylic paint keeping some white areas for interest.  Stamped all the separate images in blue ink using a stamping platform for either a lighter or darker hue.  Stamped and heat embossed a few white clouds in the sky.  Bushed in some added blue lines for contrast. The central part of the scene was cut out with a decagon (10 sided) die, used a neutral matt layer behind before matching it back up over the panel.  Final panel finished with another neutral layer.  Whit

Wildflower Squirrel

This year's Mother's Day card created with stamps from a wildflower squirrel set by Olga Heldwein for Funky Fossil.  The main image is of a lovely squirrel sitting amongst a beautiful crescent of flowers and foliage.  I see plenty of grey squirrels on my walks and would so love to see a red squirrel in the wild one day. Main focal image stamped on a Gelli plate background coloured with watercolour paints.  The surrounding images are a mix of stamps and rub ons.  Sentiment die cut in white with a coloured off set layer to match the layer behind the main panel.
