Book Folding Hedgehog

Something a bit different for me to share today a hedgehog letter rack created from a paperback book ... never tried book folding before until now and this was one of the easiest folds to achieve.  Made as an entry in our local Flower Show craft section ... I did achieve 1st prize but then there were only two entries in the "something old from something new" category which most avoided as no one was quite sure what it meant ... me included!




Simply decorated with a stamped flower/leaves from a scrap of brusho painted card and some button eyes and nose.  It was a fun project to make and looks quite cute don't you agree.

    I agree he looks so darn cute and I love this project, well done for winning a prize! I have a soft spot for hedgehogs but I'm not sure I could manage anything like this Steph, book folding looks so complicated, well done :) Hugs - Debs xxx

Birthday Wishes Cake

Made my own mixed media background panel for this birthday cake card with inks, stencils, stamps, glitter paste, stencil butter and embossing powder.  You might have to zoom in to see the sparkle and shine.  A favourite three tier cake with chocolate sprinkles ... yum! For the background I started by blending two DO inks onto white cardstock.  Repeatedly placed the mandala stencil on top, spritzed with water and dabbed off with paper towel to create a faux bleach effect.  Glitter paste and stencil butter was applied through parts of the seed head stencil.  Embossing powder was sprinkled over the top of the stencil butter and heated once dry.  Random stamping with various inks. Musical Crossword ... Paper Players #387 Musical Challenge

Set myself an additional challenge this week to combine a crossword stamp into the current  Paper Players #387 Musical Challenge  ... easy really just write the names of some instruments into the squares!  I also wanted to try the Retiform (grid) inking technique again and this is the end result. The crossword stamp was inked and embossed first before sponging distress ink along the edges of my paper masks to create several shaped areas into which I stamped musical instruments and notes using grey and black inks.  Finished off with an apt "Just a note to say ... " sentiment. Autumn Days

Autumn is one of my favourite seasons, looking forward to the rich colours of the changing leaves, squirrels busy collecting fallen acorns, fungi raising their heads above ground and seeing sunflowers still in bloom.  This card was made for a September birthday. I made my own background panel (pictured below) with two distress oxide inks smooshed on it before dry embossing with a layered leaves stencil. Stencilled on top of the raised embossing with various dye inks then used the second layering stencil to just ink the tops of the acorns.  Panel matted on burgundy cardstock.  Wanted to use a recent sale purchase of an Apple Blossom die set which creates a circular shaped puzzle centrepiece and chose a sunflower patterned paper from a recent magazine along with the same burgundy cardstock for the frame.  Once paper pieced back together this was mounted on the background panel.
