Julie Hickey Friendship Flower Birthday

Image
This card and design was inspired by watching Julie Hickey's technique video where she watercoloured three stripes using distress oxides from same colour tones to create a background.  I used picked raspberry, abandoned coral and fired brick in pink/red.  On a panel of watercolour card each individual colour was painted in a long strip, dried with a heat tool then splattered with the same colour which created a mottled effect. Once dry I used stamps from the Friendship Flower set using black ink then decided touches of gold would be a good idea to lift the design.  The middle of each flower was stamped and embossed in gold onto vellum, die cut and adhered on top.  Added a line of stamped hearts too.  A little three dot stamp from another JHD set was randomly stamped and embossed in gold.  Now some of the black ink hadn't dried completely so I ended up with even more gold highlights than I originally intended and a more overall distressed look!  Lastly ...

Uniko Happy bee Day

Image
This is my first play with some new stamp sets by Uniko which my OH surprised me with last year after I had been watching Bev's demos on the How To Craft Network event to showcase smaller brands.  Uniko are also celebrating their 11th birthday this month and I'm joining with their Birthday Card Link Party with this card. The background pattern stamp is apparently inspired by the Mid Century Modern design movement (1933-1965) of which I know very little about but I do like the clean lines.  I added glossy accents to some of the dots.  The honeycomb heart is raised up on foam pads and colour blended with watercolour pens.  The little bee was stamped on the panel and again on vellum, cut out and adhered with the wings free to move. There are lots of little stamps in the bee set to make up your own pattern/design along with different sentiments.  I chose 'bee' to signify 'Birthday'.  I'll hold my hands up and say I did make a mess of the sentiment "bee...

Sending Monster Hugs

Image
Meet this year's Valentine card a fun quirky monster clutching his heart.  I came across a card made by  Susie Wood  on her blog via Pinterest.  I loved the grey & red colour combo featuring a fun animal so this is my take on her card using what I had in my stash.  I don't very often case another crafter's make, I was already going to use this Funky Fossil motley crew monster so her card was my main inspiration. Background stamped and white heat embossed with distress element stamps onto some textured grey cardstock.  Monster is coloured with alcohol markers, added glossy accents on his eyes and the panel matted and layered.  Extra hearts and dotted lines stamped with fired brick DO ink.  Sentiment white heat embossed and placed vertically next to the panel as it just looked better there than anywhere else. highlights drawn on the heart with a white fine liner I've used - 6x6" white card base Funky Fossil stamp sets - Motley Crew & Distres...
